Denyse Whelan: HNC patient, Ambassador - Beyond Five.
Story
Hi there!
I am hosting a Soup for the Soul event in July 2019 to support people affected by head and neck cancer. Mine is as in 2018, is a "virtual" event because I connect with many people on-line and this is an awesome way for those who wish to donate to help awareness raising.
As you most likely know, I was diagnosed with a rare head and neck cancer in my upper gums and under one lip in May 2017. I am doing well but will always be vigilant and helping others to become better aware of symptoms of head and neck cancers is my goal as an Ambassador for Beyond Five.
Soup for the Soul is the only event of its kind in Australia raising awareness and funds to support people affected by head and neck cancer. By sharing a bowl of soup with family and friends we hope to nurture everyone affected by head and neck cancer and the people who care for them.
You can show your support by making a secure online donation. Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly to Beyond Five, the charity of my choice.
Whilst the fundraising goal for this Virtual Soup For the Soul Event, is high at $700, please donate what you can afford. I thought of the idea of what a bowl of soup might cost at say $10 when I made our donation. The donation link starts at $50 but you can put in your own amount.
Whether you check the option to cover fund-raising costs is your choice.
Thanks so much for your support! I
Denyse Whelan
Head and Neck Cancer Australia
www.headandneckcancer.org.au
Head and Neck Cancer Australia is the only Australian charity dedicated to providing education and support to people living with head and neck cancer. Our focus is to provide comprehensive and easy to understand information from diagnosis, treatment to life after cancer helping people to navigate their cancer journey and have the best quality of life possible. Our free resources are distributed by over 60 hospitals across Australia and New Zealand to newly diagnosed patients. We also lead the national effort to raise awareness of head and neck cancer among all Australians and healthcare professionals to increase early diagnosis and encourage prevention.
There are more than 17,000 people in Australia living with the side effects of head and neck cancer and over 5,100 people are newly diagnosed with head and neck cancer each year.
Head and neck cancer affects a person’s identity unlike any other cancer. While many people survive the disease, the cancer can strip away a person’s voice, distort the face and rob the basic abilities to eat, drink and swallow.
We receive no government funding and rely on public donations and corporate support to fund our activities. Your donation helps us provide education and support to everyone affected by head and neck cancer in communities right across Australia, making life for families experiencing head and neck cancer that little bit easier.
In 2020 over 95,000 new visitors accessed the resources on our website and our videos and animations had more than 179,000 views.
